A husband-of-the-host gift is also traditional in many of the world's more enlightened cultures.

omg, this recipe was too time-consuming and daunting for me to ignore! Actually, it turned out to be relatively painless and I'm now engaged in a throwdown with my mom, whose cookies should be done by tonight.

Wow. I am SO impressed! How could you lose a throwdown with those gorgeous things?

I'm a little worried because I'm not actually sure how they're supposed to taste; they seem a little moist... Though a good indicator that I'm a shoo-in is that my mom apparently thinks an offset spatula is the kind that you flip pancakes with.

I think they are supposed to be fairly moist. I remember them tasting kind of like almond?

Her fatal flaw was not following Deb's helpful hints at the bottom of the recipe which warned against using too much preserves and advised freezing before cutting.

Sounds like someone needs to learn to follow directions!
